Denmark at a glance

Denmark is located in Northern Europe. It is made up of 5 regions: Central Denmark Region, North Denmark Region, South Denmark Region, Zealand and Capital Region of Denmark. These regions are further divided into 98 municipalities, which are the main administrative divisions of Denmark.
The population of Denmark is approximately 5.8 million people, with the majority of the population living in the cities. The Capital city Copenhagen is the most densely populated area with over 1.3 million people.

Denmark has a well-established and regulated banking system, with over 92 financial institutions operating in the country. Danmarks Nationalbank is the central bank of Denmark responsible for implementing monetary policy, issuing banknotes and coins and supervising the banking system.

Financial Regulators

The primary financial regulator in Denmark is the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (DFSA). It aims to ensure the stability, integrity and transparency of the financial sector and to protect consumers and investors.

Small Claims Procedure

In Denmark, small claims are handled by the district courts (Byret). The maximum amount that can be claimed in small claims court is DKK 50,000 (approximately EUR 6,700). The procedure is relatively informal, and lawyers are not required, although they can be present if both parties agree.
